What to Expect

elephantsUncertainty is a source of anxiety!  So here is an overview of what to expect. On the first session I will get more information about the issues you are coming to counselling for, through talking together and perhaps having you filling out a brief but relevant questionaire that helps me to better understand your mental health. At the end of the first session I will let you know what I can offer with regard to your specific concerns. I use a variety of tools depending on client needs- cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, relaxation skills, self-esteem exercises, assertiveness training, exposure therapy, etc. We can set some goals for what you want to accomplish through counselling, and we can review those goals as we go along. If you are looking for talk therapy that is less structured, that is fine too.  On the second session I will provide you with useful hand-outs and other possible resources related to your concerns, and will continue to provide these as long as they are helpful. I will also challenge some of your thoughts and perceptions, as needed! You can challenge me too!

My educational background of social work, education and theological studies has been a good combination that contributes to my work in the counselling field. If you have questions with regard to the counselling process feel free to call me or send an email.
